How Much I Spent: 3 Days in Savannah

I believe in financial transparency, and that we as travelers should be more open about budgets. My Savannah budget wasn’t existent – I didn’t walk into this trip planning to spend below a certain amount (which is unlike me, but I’ll explain). In this post, I’ll share how much I spent in Savannah during a long weekend.

The reason I didn’t budget this Savannah trip is two-fold. One, this was a short girls trip, and I didn’t want to feel held back in any way. Two, I was fortunate to be traveling with a friend who works for Holiday Inn Club Vacations, so our hotel was discounted.

I spent three days in Savannah, one of which was mostly spent working remotely. During that time, I ate and drank to my heart’s delight, and I felt like I saw everything I wanted to see.

Now, on to how much I spent in Savannah!

Cost of a 3-Day Trip to Savannah, Georgia

Let’s break down my costs into a few categories.

Travel: $26

From Orlando, Savannah is a four-hour drive. This category amounted to gas split between friends.

Accommodation: $138

As I mentioned, I was lucky to be with a friend who got us discounted hotel room rates ($93/night). We stayed at the Holiday Inn Savannah Historic District. This downtown location put us close to River Street and other shopping and dining options. It’s not fancy by any means, but it was a solid choice for the price.

We weren’t as lucky with parking, though. That cost me $45, but at least we didn’t need to worry about driving around the city since we were centrally located.

Entertainment: $58

For this trip through Savannah, this category includes tours and tips. The first tour we did was a ghost tour through Ghosts and Gravestones. We took a trolley through the city and learned about some of Savannah’s most famous ghosts.

The second tour we did was a free walking tour of Savannah. While it was free, we of course left a good tip for our guide.

Food/Drinks: $227

Yes, I did spend more on food/drinks than I did accommodation. Can you blame me? There’s just so much good food in Savannah. Not to mention it’s open container, here.

Here were a few of my favorite spots for food and drinks:

1. Collins Quarter

We had Sunday brunch at Collins Quarter, and it was such a pleasant experience. We hardly had to wait for a table, the service was prompt and the food was tasty. In Savannah, you can’t be served alcohol until 11am on Sundays, and they celebrate the clock turning to 11 with a dance party.

2. Little Duck Diner

As the name implies, you get a little rubber duck with your drink order. This was another brunch spot we went to (as you can see, I love brunch). It was a popular spot, but they have an electronic waiting list, so you can check your place in line. While retro in design, this is very Insta-worthy place to check out.

3. Lulu’s Chocolate Bar

Chocolate. Need I say more? The bakers and bartenders at this chocolate bar know what they’re doing. You can order one of their many chocolate martinis while also snacking on a chocolate cake.

4. Alley Cat Lounge

This basement bar is a hidden gem (truly, it’s in an alley). They have a wide collection of spirits and cocktails. The menu, which is designed as a newspaper, even adds to the 1940s ambiance.

Shopping: $30

I’m not a huge shopper when I travel, probably because I’m used to traveling light. The only thing I bought was a book lover’s advent calendar (eep!). It’s almost December, so I’m really excited to see what it’s inside for me to open.

Total: $479

For a weekend girls trip to Savannah, I don’t think that’s too bad. Considering I didn’t even have a budget to go off of, I think I did well with my spending in Savannah.
